Developed through the passionate support of Midwestern horsemen, the center is a true dual-purpose facility. During the week, the stables, stalls and arena serve as Kirkwood’s Horse Science classrooms and working laboratories.

On the weekends, the center hosts hundreds of premier equine events, including many APHA and AQHA events, futurities, saddle club shows, clinics, and local and regional shows involving many breed associations. Kirkwood has one of the largest Horse Science programs in the Midwest, in part due to the superior facilities at the Iowa Equestrian Center. It provides infinite learning possibilities for our students as we educate them to honor the traditions of horsemanship and prepare them for a dynamic future in the horse industry.
